ANNIE’S
STORY
A
very kind couple found me running loose at Harvey County West Park on
Sunday, May 1, 2005. The Park Ranger told them I’d been hanging around for
2 or 3 months. They took me to their home and fed me. They spent hours
cutting mats of hair, twigs, sand burrs, cockleburs and innumerable ticks
from my coat. They decided to call me Annie, after Little Orphan Annie, and
they were very nice to me. I had burrs imbedded in all my feet and they
were really sore. The nice couple said they couldn’t keep me, so they
brought me to Caring Hands Humane Society on Monday
evening so that I would get the rest of the help I needed.
The staff at Caring
Hands tried to remove the burrs from my feet but they were so deeply
imbedded that it was very painful for me. They set me up with a Veterinary
appointment on Tuesday, so I could have the burrs removed under sedation.
While I was at the vet’s office the CHHS staff person that took me there
discovered a laceration on my neck under some matting. The vet decided to
keep me overnight and put me under anesthesia the next morning.
Wednesday morning they
put a needle in my leg and I went to sleep. When I awakened all of my hair
was very short and my feet were really sore. Then I discovered that I could
move my toes and there was no longer anything stuck between them. The Vet
said something about Heartworms and I guess they are pretty bad. I have now
returned to CHHS and you can see me in the Kennel Area.
Annie
Annie is a very gentle
and sweet soul, which is typical of the Great Pyrenees breed. She is
communicative and loves all the attention she can get. She has a front foot
that creeps up to beg for more when you stop petting her. Annie will wrap
herself around your heart in an instant.
CHHS Staff
Thanks to all who
responded to the preceding article, we raised the money for Annie's
treatment. Annie received her first treatment on May 16th. Thanks to the
generous outpour of love Annie is doing wonderful. She has found a new home
with both the comfort of many acres to run (fenced) as she was accustomed to
and the love of a generous family who lets her come indoors when she wants.
My eternal gratefulness goes out to all of YOU for the help given to Annie!!
There are many animals
