Tuffy's Unconditional Love Fund

Although Tuffy was only in his home for five  short months, he left an impression that will be remembered by his family for the remainder of their lives. In remembrance of Tuffy, our Emergency Medical Fund is being renamed the “Tuffy’s Unconditional Love Fund”

Tuffy came into my life as a foster kitten who had been through a tragic experience and had to have his front left leg removed, which made him stand a little like a chicken whose eating. Because of this we nicknamed him "Chicken".

I knew the afternoon he came into Caring Hands that he was a pretty tough little guy to have the will to keep fighting for survival. I decided then that if he made it through surgery, I would take him home and nurse him back to health. Even then my heart went out to the little guy who seemed to know that we were his only chance.

 Everyone at home was a little skeptical about his chances to live and a little afraid of getting to close at first but, within a week or two the little guy had won the hearts of everyone, even my husband who had resisted his charms for the longest time. My oldest daughter Dusti seemed to share a special bond with Tuffy but he made sure no one was lacking any attention. However he did spend more time with Dusti than anyone else.

Tuffy loved to be held and would watch you talk sometimes he would pat your mouth ever so gently with his remaining front paw. It is this simple act that sticks with me, some days when I think of him I can still feel that whisper soft touch as if to tell me it was OK. 

The work we do is limited only by the generosity of those willing to help...through memberships (donations), fostering, volunteering, donating food or blankets or by sending a monetary donation. Money is used to buy vaccinations, medications and pay veterinarian bills on special needs animals.
