Provide plenty
of fresh water daily especially to outside animals, and don’t forget about the
shade. Would you like to curl up inside a hot plastic box?

Old or
overweight and snub-nosed animals or those with heart and lung conditions
should be kept in the air conditioning as much as possible.

If you shave
your heavy coated dog or cat during the summer please leave at least an inch
of fur to help protect from sunburn.

Remember to see
your Veterinarian regularly to help prevent fleas, ticks and heartworm
disease. This should be a year round preventative measure.

Never let your
animal loose outside he could be stolen, injured or killed, and if you must
chain him out remember the city of Newton has an ordinance that say’s no choke
collars, no chains wrapped directly around the animal. The chain or tether
must be at least 10’ (feet) long, weigh no more than 1/8 the total weight of
the animal and be positioned in such a way as to not allow accidental hanging
or entanglement.
